A total of 26 families affected by fire incidents were given financial assistance by Iloilo City Government during City Hall flag ceremony May 28.
Mayor Jose Espinosa III distributed P7,000 to fire victims whose houses were totally damaged, and P5,000 to those with partially damaged houses.
“We are saddened by what happened to you and your families because of the fire. We know how hard it is for you to cope with your situation and the recovery process is not easy, that’s why the City Government is here to help you with your needs,” Espinosa said.
Salvacion Escaro from Lapuz Norte thanked the City Government for the immediate help.
“During the incident, we really don’t know what to do. We just made sure that we were all safe and that was what mattered. To our Mayor, thank you for your unending care and support,” Escaro said in dialect.
Perla Bolante from Baldoza, La Paz said the amount given will be used for building their temporary shelter.
“There was nothing left after the fire. We are still staying at the evacuation site until now. But because of the assistance given to us, we can finally build temporary shelter where our family can stay,” Bolante said.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office validated the recipients including 12 families from Barangay Lapuz Norte; four from Tacas, Jaro; and five from Baldoza, four from Railway, and one from San Isidro, all in La Paz district. (Thessalonia Ordales/Iloilo City PIO)
