The Iloilo City Health Office (CHO), through the City Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), obliged all 180 barangay captains in the metropolis to purchase misting machine and larvicide to combat dengue-causing mosquitoes.
City Health Officer Dr. Bernard Caspe wrote City DILG Director Atty. Ferdinand Panes to compel village chiefs to procure misting machine and larvicide to prevent dengue which has been detrimental to the health of residents.
Larvicide is applied to stagnant water where mosquitoes lay eggs to help lessen their number. The misting machine is filled with insecticide that kills adult mosquitoes.
“The City Health Office needs the help of barangay officials to fight dengue. We cannot cover all barangays to perform the misting for a short period of time, but when they have their own misting machine and larvicide, they can help us,” Caspe said.
CHO has conducted misting to barangays, and public and private schools.Panes issued an order to all barangay captains to include in their Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) Plan, activities and projects, to address the prevalence of dengue cases. (Merianne Grace Ereñeta/Iloilo City PIO)
